Save Texas Reps reports that U.S. Senator Kay Bailey Hutchison has asked former Texas Lt Governor Ben Barnes to head up Democrats for Hutchison. Being a "Democrat for Hutchison" is a lot like being a "Democrat for Reagan" - downright confused. As a refresher on her ideology, let's take a look at Issues2000.org's reports about Senator Hutchison's legislative record:
In 2002, rated 25 percent by the ACLU, indicating an anti-civil rights voting record.
In 2003, rated 7 percent by NARAL, indicating a pro-life voting record.
In 2003, rated 74 percent by Grover Norquist's National Taxpayers Union.
In 2003, rated 100 percent by the US Chamber of Commerce, indicating a pro-business voting record.
In 2003, rated 100 percent by the Christian Coalition.
Make no mistake: Kay Bailey Hutchison is no moderate. She's a right-wing panderer to fundamentalist Christians and big business just like the rest of the motley crew Texans exported to DC. A Ben Barnes endorsement would be a sad mistake on his part, although it certainly wouldn't be the first time he placed personal allegiances above common sense.
