From the Texas Moritorium Network:
Ernest Willis, who was released from Texas Death Row on October 6th, will soon enjoy his first holiday season with his family in 17 years. We would like to ask for your help to make this first holiday season a little more comfortable for Ernest and his family.Posted by sarah at December 2, 2004 8:11 AM | TrackBackAs you can imagine, adjusting to freedom after spending 17 years as an innocent person on Death Row must be extremely difficult. When Ernest walked off Death Row on Oct 6th, he was given $100, 10 days of medication, and the plaid shirt, green pants and white running shoes he had on.
While nothing can make up for 17 years of wrongful imprisonment, we are hoping that with your help we can send a small message to Ernest that we all care about him and his family and that we wish him the best during this holiday season.
Texas Moratorium Network has created the Texas Death Penalty Innocence Freedom Fund to help Ernest and future innocents freed from Texas Death Row. Please donate what you can to Ernest and his familiy.
Our goal is to raise $1,000 for Ernest. If we raise more than $1,000, we will save the rest of the funds for the next innocent person who walks off Texas Death Row.
