NY Day Two

I was in meetings for most of today but did manage to get out and see the town for a bit this evening. After having a few pints at a pub* near our hotel, some coworkers and I went out with a former PhD candidate who worked for my boss and his wife. He's from Malaysia and she's from Hong Kong so they gave us the grand tour of China Town including a fabulous dinner at a restaurant specializing in Malaysian food. There was fish with a chili sauce, a tempura-like soft shell crab served with mango and bell pepper, a Chinese broccoli dish, fried silken tofu, and several other great looking dishes that weren't friendly to my meatless diet. After dinner we walked around Little Italy and had espresso and gelato for desert. Needless to say, I'm stuffed. On the way home we drove through the city...I'm slowly getting my bearings so hopefully I'll have time to get out on the town for a while in the morning.

* Nonsmoking bars still seem very foreign and inauthentic to me. That said, I haven't seen many people smoking here at all so I suppose there are true public health benefits to high cigarette taxes and nonsmoking laws...
