A few easy ways to do some good:
1. While it looks like construction will move foward on the new Planned Parenthood facility in South Austin, it's still worthwhile to speak out in support of their efforts. There's an online petition where you can demonstrate your support. Yes, online petitions are generally worthless but it's worthwhile to sign up if it helps convince local contractors that they won't be shunned for participating in the construction of this much needed facility.
2. You may have driven by Maplewood elementary last year and caught a glimpse of something very odd: a picket line of eight-year-olds. Local cuts by AISD have reduced the funding for arts in local schools and parents, students, and community members at Maplewood have taken matters into their own hands. The 2nd Annual Cherrywood Art Fair is 11am-6pm this Saturday. Fair proceeds benefit the arts program with concessions profits raising money for the 6th grade trip to NASA. check out their website for more information about the event.
