Sliding into Home

Things are starting to slow down now that my semester is almost over. It's close enough that I can actually stop for 24-hours and know that I'll still have time to get everything done. What a great feeling.

That's the lame thing about school, after all. It's so much more fun to be reading and thinking and arguing ideas all day long than sitting in a cubicle but, just the same, you don't get to stick to an 8-5 workday. School's always there, hanging over you, in the back of your mind...

Yesterday I decided I needed a long-awaited break from doing anything for anybody except for me. I cleaned house, did a load of laundry, ate Amy's enchiladas, made homemade soap, played with my roommate's puppy, raked leaves, and cleaned out the flowerbeds. The latter two left me *very* sore today but the exercise was fabulous and it was such a beatiful day that I didn't mind the hard work. I cleaned up a dumbfounding 150 gallons of leaves, weeds, and tree trimmings.

The rest of my week went pretty well. School was uneventful. Jacob, Tamara and I got to pick up Sammy the Cat on Tuesday. He was healthy, pleased to see us, and, seemingly, a little bit more plump than we'd left him. By the way - thanks again to all the folks who helped out - we managed to raise $182. It makes me feel good to know so many people that are willing to pitch in to help out a friend.

Seth and I are dilly-dallying around town today. We fixed up his 2nd bike so now I can ride his 24" which is a real godsend. I have a 20" but I swear I can hear the cartilage in my knee slowly grinding away each time I ride it - the result being a two-year boycott of bike riding in general. What a shame.

I'm off to the Woodlands to see mum and dad this Wednesday and rather looking forward to it. The holidays can be stressful and family can get frustrating but, generally speaking, everyone around my parents' house is in a good mood when we don't have to work. A family unified by laziness. God bless America.
