An Adventure in Academia

I spent most of this week in Dallas (a.k.a. "The Big D") at an academic conference for the Association for Public Policy Analysis and Management (APPAM) where I hobnobbed with any number of influential policy wonks from around the nation. Oh yes, it was every bit as fabulous as it sounds. I got my own expense account and hotel room at the Westin Park Central. As described by Fodor's:

This fine hotel is 15 minutes from Deep Ellum, an arts district with all kinds of music, dance clubs, restaurants, and more. 540 rooms. Restaurant, room service, in-room data ports, tennis court, pool, gym, business services. AE, D, DC, MC, V. www.sheraton.com

I had a fabulous dinner at a great place near Deep Ellum (I think) called the Samba Room. I highly recommend the Seared Rare Tuna and Mohitos. I also had a great breakfast at an authentic Jewish deli called, lamely enough, Bagelsteins.

Overall, I was surprised to find that Dallas, as crappy as it is, has a few cool attractions to offer. This is good because I made a contact this week and may have a very exciting job sitting in a cubicle and writing reports for the Government Accounting Agency this summer...check back for details.
