I Built A Shrine for you on the Kitchen Wall with Flowers and Florida Souvenirs

I went away and now I’m back. This should be something of an anti-climax.

There are good things afoot lately. It’s lovely autumn. We went to the lovely, autumnal midwest and saw my wonderful, wintery brother and perdurable papa. I had a not-terrible job interview today for a library position that I really want. I’ve seen a whole lot of great shows lately, including the Phantom Limbs, Holly Golightly and La Fraction (who are interviewed in the most recent Maximum Rock and Roll, and one of the best live bands I’ve seen in a long damn time), as well as all the local faves in abundance (Dirty Sweets, the Mood Killers, East Side Suicides). And Halloween is almost here!

Possibly the best thing to happen in the last few days however, was yesterday when I was coming home from work in the strange near-dark. I was listening to Public Enemy’s “By the Time I Get to Arizona” super loud driving up Lamar Blvd. and when I was almost home, all the streetlights for miles came on at once. It seemed auspicious, but I couldn’t tell you why.
